School sponsorships

Hundreds of children aged 4 to 18 cannot attend school due to missing fees, uniforms, and stationery. We connect students with sponsors so their education continues unbroken across all school terms.

School fees cost $300 for the year, or $100 per term for primary school children and $600 for secondary school children. These fees include:

  • Tuition - $45
  • Food contribution - $14
  • Uniform - $7
  • School shoes & socks - $9
  • School bag - $10
  • School supplies - $11

Additional items provided by Harbert Foundation Uganda include:

  • Toothpaste  & soap
  • Shoe polish
  • Toilet paper
  • Sanitary products for the girls

Currently more than 30 children are registered at the Foundation require some sort of financial support

Meals & school supplies

Proper nutrition and stationery are vital for learning. We fund regular school food support and complete classroom packages, ensuring children can concentrate on their studies every single day.

Beyond the school timetable, many children do not eat daily, so we ensure all children who attend the Foundation are given a cup of juice and some hot soup and bread. This is often their only meal of the day.

During school holidays, many children do not have access to daily food supplies, so we ensure we always have enough food supplies available to provide a basic meal at the least.

If you can contribute towards our food contributions for the children please donate by the following link.

21 children to date, have been sponsored with the following 7 children sponsored by some of our UK friends:

  • Isaac & Saviour (aged 10 & 8) - Amahle Africa's Go Fund me Page, including Dani, Sam, Tracey, Andy T, Shirley and many more...

Art workshop & Lucas' Book Nook library

The Bwindi Local Woodcarvers Association has outgrown its current site. With 20 wood carvers attending daily to share their skills, and more than 30 children to access the library and a safe place to share with their friends, a bigger and watertight facility is needed.

Following the design and sourcing of the foundations of the workshop, funding is needed to complete the build.

We are currently fundraising to provide a roof and external walls of our new 50 ft x 12 ft community workshop. This dedicated space will provide space for our 20 wood carvers and our other artists to work whilst providing a safe place for children to attend and learn about conservation through art.

The workshop will feature an art library and materials for our three talented young artists, who we also hope to fund their college fees. Currently our children draw and colour postcards, carve gorillas and plant indigenous trees to help conserve our forests.

Built by our own hands, 12 volunteer carvers collected and prepared the wood from local fallen trees. Alongside digging the foundations and building the main frame, we have since planted 5 trees for every tree we have used.

Gerald, Philemon & Meble

Urgent appeal - Oct 26

Three children, two boys, Tugume Gerald (aged 9), Sabiti Philemon (aged 10 years) and girl Ninsiima Meble (aged 11), are all hoping someone is able to sponsor them or contribute towards their school fees.

After hearing in the rural community that their neighbours Isaac & Saviour are now both attending school, the children's mum approached the Harbert Foundation in the hope that someone could sponsor her children. Harbert and his friend Emmy from another non-profit organisation, visited the family the next day to take them food.

Living in a friends house almost 30 mins away from the main road through Buhoma, the family were found to be living in very poor conditions with very few clothing items and no food. The family are now registered with the Harbert Foundation and have since received some basic food supplies and the boys, some clothes. We are trying to source some clothes for Mbele so she does not feel left out.

If anyone can help, please get in touch or donate now, as the children are in desperate need of support. Sabiti would like to join primary 2, Tugume primary 1 and Ninsiima Primary 3. This term includes November and December and if registered before mid-November, they can continue onto the next class for free.

Keeping children in education

While 21 students currently receive generous sponsorships, many are forced to withdraw after just one term when funding gaps occur. Our emergency education fund protects these students, ensuring their studies remain uninterrupted through primary and secondary school.

This obviously costs the Foundation a lot of money but we will not stand back and let children miss out on their essential education.

“It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor… that a child of farm workers can become the president of a great nation.”

Real progress made together

With help from our UK partners at Amahle Africa, we recently raised £1,850 to fund school fees for 7 children and delivered over 100 kg of donated clothing directly to vulnerable families in Bwindi. Together, every pound transforms lives. One day in our lives we will never forget!
